Annually, local farmers need 25-28 billion of shrimp seeds for stocking while local hatcheries only meet 45 percent of local demand (9-10 billion ones). The rest is bought outside the province.

In the context of fast expansion in whiteleg shrimp farming area, local authorities recommended farmers to be cautious about farming the species on large scale owing to large investment capital and high risk of disease.

Local farmers need to invest at least VND200 million for one pond of whiteleg shrimp farming. Besides, complicated farming techniques and lack of power also create some difficulties for farmers.
